The Histamine in wine
While Histamine is associated with Allergies, Immune disorders and Inflammatory response it has a kinder side as well.
Histamine, a neurotransmitter, is a modulator of immune response and the primary mediator of inflammatory response. It is a substance released by injured cells that causes blood vessels to dilate during an inflammatory response. It is also a potent spasmogen of smooth muscle. For example, release of histamine causes contraction of the smooth muscle lining of our air passages that can trigger an asthma attack.
When our adrenal glands are working properly they release cortisol to limit the inflammation to a level that is necessary for immediate tissue repair. They do this by blocking the effects of histamine that is released by damaged cells which brings more blood flow to the area. Histamine alerts the body to release cortisol as a healing response. Undigested and fermented food causes the body to raise histamine levels, which can produce an allergic reaction. We know that histamine is associated with the symptoms of an allergic reaction such as a runny nose, itchy eyes, and sneezing.
As Vitamin C rids the body of excess histamine it would be reasonable to assume that people who have a continued presence or increased levels of histamine are either not getting enough Vitamin C with food or supplementation or they are allergic to it. In many cases, both scenarios are probable. Magnesium has also been found to reduce histamine levels.

can give you a headache
SOME THINGS YOU MIGHT CONSIDER:
Take Vitamin C and Magnesium to lower histamine induced allergic reactions.
A dehydrated body will also release histamine together with prostaglandins and kinins. Many people do not drink enough water, or they may consume beverages containing caffeine or alcohol which produce diuretic effects resulting in further loss of water and an increase in histamine production. For example, red wine is particularly high in histamine content and can trigger migraine and cluster headaches in susceptible individuals.
Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day

HISTAMINE FRIEND OR FOE…
Dear Ted,
I just noticed your blog and wanted to comment that you can also add a whole list of activities of histamine which occur only in the brain: alertness, feeding control, sexual behavior, etc.
Many thank and best, Yaffa
